Leeds United morning headlines as Whites remain keen on Ollie Watkins transfer, Wilson update

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Friday, September 4.

Attention turned to Watkins after Brewster blow - report

Leeds are still looking to further bolster their attack in the transfer market after breaking their transfer record to sign Rodrigo from Valencia.

Football Insider report that Leeds were keen on a loan move for Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster, who impressed at Swansea City last season, but Jurgen Klopp has ruled out another move away for the 20-year-old striker.

The report goes on to state the club will now turn their attention to alternative targets.

Leeds retain an interest in Brentford’s Ollie Watkins, while they’ve enquired about taking Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on loan.

Leeds must be patient in Harry Wilson pursuit

The Telegraph report that Liverpool’s Harry Wilson, who will be allowed to leave on a permanent deal if a suitable offer comes in, is unlikely to do so until nearer October.

The Reds are said to be pursuing Bayern Munich star Thiago, but may need to raise funds before they make a move for the treble-winning Spain international.

Georginio Wijnaldum has been tipped to reunite with former Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, but Wilson would be another avenue to bring in money, alongside fellow perennial loanee Marko Grujic.

Wilson, who scored seven Premier League goals on loan at Bournemouth last season, has frequently been linked with a move to Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites - but he won’t make the switch in time to play against his boyhood club on the opening weekend.

Swansea boss speaks out on Leeds’ Cabango ‘interest’

Steve Cooper has had his say on Leeds’ reported interest in their 20-year-old centre-half Ben Cabango.

It’s been suggested that Leeds will look to add further reinforcements to their backline after the capture of Germany international Robin Koch from Freiburg.

However, the reports appear to have taken Swans boss Cooper by surprise. He’s confirmed that Leeds haven’t made a bid yet.

"First I’ve heard of it, and no, there’s not been any bid," the Swansea boss told Wales Online.

"I’m very proud of Ben being with the national team, an academy graduate, a player who we gave opportunities to last year and took it, and has now had the recognition of getting into the national team.”

Here’s what he had to say in full.
