Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Friday, 18 September.
Bielsa coy on transfer rumours
Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa refused to be drawn on speculation linking the club with moves for two more players during his pre-match press conference on Thursday.
Leeds have recently been linked with Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul and Dinamo Zagreb defender Josko Gvardiol.
However, speaking ahead of Leeds’ clash against Fulham on Saturday, Bielsa was giving little away.
“I don’t like to talk about speculation as a lot of things can happen,” said the Argentine.
“I would rather talk about players after they have arrived and not beforehand.”
Mills calls on fans to temper expectations
Danny Mills believes Leeds fans must calibrate their expectations for the season despite a promising start in their opening game against Liverpool.
The Whites were on the wrong end of a Mohamed Salah hat-trick as they lost 4-3 to the champions at Anfield.
With Bielsa’s side having scored three goals away to Liverpool, many supporters have prepared themselves for a thrilling return to the Premier League, but Mills insists it will be a struggle for them to finish inside the top 10.
"We need to be realistic with Leeds – they can’t finish in the Top 10 this season," former Leeds defender Mills told GentingBet.
"If they can finish 15th or 16th and be safe with five or six games to go then I think most fans, and certainly the club, will take that immediately. I've seen Leeds a lot over the last two seasons.
"I've seen what they put out. I've seen the quality of the players they have, and they've added quality to that. Ben White is a big loss because he was an exceptional player but they’ve brought in Robin Koch, who I think will be a good addition, while Rodrigo will add some firepower.
"They put Liverpool under all sorts of pressure, they dominated possession and they scored some goals although they did make some errors that they need to cut out if they are going to go on and have a successful season.”
Leeds must pay £50m for Brooks
Leeds will have to pay a club-record £50m if they are to sign Bournemouth’s David Brooks, according to The Sun.
The Welshman, who has also been linked with Leicester City and Manchester United, joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United in 2018 and impressed during his first season in the top flight, scoring seven goals in 33 appearances.
However, he endured an injury-plagued 2019/20 campaign, with a serious ankle injury restricting him to just nine league games.
Leeds are thought to still be in the market for creative players, hence their reported interest in De Paul.
