Leeds United morning headlines as Whites eye Daniel James Man Utd move, Bamford makes prediction

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Sunday, 20 September.

Leeds reignite interest in James

Leeds United have reportedly reignited their interest in Manchester United winger Daniel James.

According to the Daily Star, the Whites are set to up their interest in the Wales international, who very nearly joined the club before moving to Old Trafford.

A £15million bid from the Red Devils priced out Leeds but a frustrating run of form at Old Trafford could see him seek a new challenge before the end of the transfer window.

The report also states that United would only be likely to sell James if they can finally land Jadon Sancho, valued at £108m, or another top right-sided forward.

Bielsa explains thoughts behind defensive security

Marcelo Bielsa believes that playing more minutes together won’t simply make Liam Cooper and Robin Koch a perfect defensive partnership.

A 4-3 win over Fulham saw the Whites pick up their first Premier League win of the season, although adding another three goals conceded to the four at Anfield last weekend.

On the topic of defensive security in his post-match press conference, Bielsa pointed out the unique threat that Aleksandr Mitrovic brought to the game.

He said: “I don’t think it’s a question of time. If they had a few problems today it wasn’t due to a lack of co-ordination.

“The difficulties that they had today I don't think will improve if they play more games together.

“It’s difficult to have the virtues needed to be able to cope with the number nine and his characteristics. If anyone caused us danger today it was him. That's why I say that it was not due to their partnership that we defended badly, it was due to the virtues of Mitrovic."

Bamford outlines the need to improve

Patrick Bamford has outlined the need for Leeds to improve by predicting several long meetings with Bielsa to unpick Saturday’s eventful win over Fulham.

The Whites were involved in another seven-goal thriller which will be exciting for the neutral, but the centre-forward pointed out why he doesn’t want to be involved in such eventful games every week.

Bamford said: “I hope not (4-3 every week). Last weekend was a free hit and we were playing against the best team in the country,” the Leeds striker said to BT Sport following the 4-3 victory.

“We showed a good side of ourselves there but today was against a team who also came up with us last season.

“We wanted to win but that was a little bit too close. I think there will be a few long meetings (with Bielsa) this week just to pick out what we can do better. But we won, that’s the main thing.”
