Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Thursday, 13 August.
Whelan impressed by defensive capture
Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan is impressed by the club’s plans to sign young Fulham defender Cody Drameh.
Leeds have reportedly agreed personal terms with the defender and have now had a bid of £400,000 rising to £1million accepted.
Whelan told Football Insider: “That’s why we went to Category One with the academy.
“This is the reason why we did that, to try and bring these youngsters in and progress them through the under 23s so they can come through to the first team, like Jamie Shackleton and some of the other younger players.
“This is how it needs to be done now, there’s no point going to Category One if we’re not going to try and get these good youngsters into the club, to use them later on in the future and progress them to first-team players.”
Leeds plan for Campana
Levante midfielder Jose Campana has established himself as one of La Liga’s top midfielders in recent years and now Leeds are prepared to meet his £27.1million valuation.
That is according to Portuguese newspaper Record, as cited by Leeds Live, who say the 27-year-old is on the Marcelo Bielsa’s radar.
Campana made six appearances in a disappointing stint with Crystal Palace in 2013/14 but has subsequently improved significantly back in Spain.
Arsenal, Everton and Aston Villa are also said to be monitoring the central midfielder’s future.
The impact Buendia could have at Elland Road
Norwich City attacking midfielder Emi Buendia is one of several players who’s been linked with a move to Leeds this summer.
The Argentine starred for the Canaries last season but was unable to prevent their slide back down into the Championship.
Leeds Live has evaluated what sort of impact Buendia could have at Elland Road by bringing him to the club on Football Manager 2020.
The technically gifted midfielder enjoyed a hugely productive season, netting 12 times in 35 appearances in the Premier League and also providing three assists, while creating more chances (45) than any other player.
Let’s hope he manages a similar total if Leeds do bring him to Elland Road for real.
