Leeds United morning headlines as Uruguayan international linked and Marcelo Bielsa handed West Ham injury boost

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines on Tuesday December 8th.

Leeds return for Uruguayan midfielder

Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez has been a long-time target of Leeds United's and it appears he remains a player the club's hierarchy wish to pursue.

Fresh reports in El Intra Sports claim Leeds and West Ham United are amongst the sides interested in acquiring the player who Leeds most recently trailed back in 2019 when he was still with Boca Juniors.

Since securing his European move, Nandez has impressed on the island of Sardinia with Serie A side Cagliari. He would supplement the options currently available to Marcelo Bielsa in midfield and certainly fits the bill of a player with great intensity and an insatiable work-rate.

West Ham depleted ahead of Leeds test

Leeds United's opponents this weekend are set to be without their key man and last season's top goalscorer Michail Antonio.

The 30-year-old is struggling to recover from a hamstring problem, with manager David Moyes admitting it is touch-and-go whether the Englishman will be involved in his squad for the trip to Elland Road.

Antonio has missed four of the Hammers' past five league games and featured in just 45 minutes of their match with Aston Villa two weeks ago.

In his place will be French forward Sebastien Haller who has struggled to make a considerable impact at the London Stadium.

This should provide Marcelo Bielsa with a much needed boost following his side's 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.

West Ham enter this Friday's game three points ahead of Leeds in the table but a 4-0 victory for the home side would see the Whites leapfrog Moyes' men.

Bielsa awarded top billing in manager ranks

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has been recognised as one of the game's most reputable and prestige coaches, placing sixth in a Top 10 list of managers.

Compiled by ESPN, the latest rundown places Bielsa above Carlo Ancelotti, who he recently bested at Goodison Park, Real Madrid's Champions League-winning head coach Zinedine Zidane, Europa League winner Julen Lopetegui and Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone.

This comes in the year which Bielsa led Leeds back to the top flight of the English game and while there are no prizes for finishing sixth, certainly demonstrates how highly thought of his work is in the wider footballing community.

Bielsa has previously stated he does not care for personal effects or individual awards, so it is unlikely he will address this latest matter, but for Leeds supporters it is a badge of honour they can wear proudly over their rivals, including Manchester United.
