Leeds United news as Man City defender named as transfer link and Bielsa speaks out on loan

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines on Tuesday 5th January.

Luke Mbete interest

As per The Athletic, Leeds United are said to be monitoring Manchester City teenager Luke Mbete. The 17-year-old most recently made Pep Guardiola's bench for their clash with Chelsea last weekend and is highly thought of in youth football circles.

Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee described Mbete as an excellent passer, left-footed and comfortable in possession. He also ticks plenty of boxes when it comes to physical attributes too.

Mbete was added to City's youth ranks when Brentford's academy was shut, similar to the scenario which brought Ian Poveda to the North West.

Bielsa draws on many positives his side displayed today

Lee credits Leeds and Juventus with an interest in recent weeks, which would tally with the Italian giants' change of approach in the transfer market and Leeds' summer policy of hoovering up elite, teenage talent from other British clubs.

Bielsa steps in on Greenwood future

WalesOnline report that following interest from Cardiff City, Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has been quick to quash any chance of Sam Greenwood going out on loan this January.

It is thought that the intention is for Greenwood to remain with Leeds' U-23s for the time being, in order to settle and develop in-house, having been moved around frequently from the age of sixteen.

Greenwood has impressed in Mark Jackson's U-23 side this season, scoring six times in nine outings.

Bielsa has previously stated his desire to keep plenty of younger players around the first-team squad.

"We analyse every performance of the under-23s as if it were the first team and because normally we train with 22 players and when we are missing any of those 22 players then we substitute them with some of the under-23s.

"I think that around fifty per cent of the players in the under-23s can apply for a place on our team."

No move for Dele

Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli has been told by Jose Mourinho that he will remain a Spurs player this January transfer window, unless the club can find a replacement, says a report in The Guardian.

Alli has been somewhat ostracised from first-team matters in the Premier League, becoming a bit-part player who features mostly in peripheral competitions.

Leeds United had been credited with a passing interest but that move looks all but dead as Mourinho intends to keep the 24-year-old in North London.

Question marks had been raised over Alli's desire to go out on loan, which would likely have been the only viable way he could have moved to Leeds.
