Leeds United morning headlines as Rodrigo agreement confirmed, Ryan Kent backed for Rangers stay

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Wednesday, August 26.

Kent should stay at Ibrox - Sterland

Former Rangers defender Mel Sterland has urged Ryan Kent to stay at the Scottish club amid speculation linking him with a move to Leeds United.

Sterland joined the Gers from Sheffield Wednesday in 1989 only for Graeme Souness to tell him that he was surplus to requirements four months later, prompting his move to Elland Road.

Leeds have seen a £10million bid for winger Kent rejected by Rangers and Sterland, who won the First Division title with the Whites in 1992, has urged the 23-year-old to remember that he has time on his side.

“So if I was Ryan I’d stay at Rangers,” he told the Record. “He’s only in his third season and he’s just 23 years old so he’s got plenty of time to play in the Premier League.

“I’m sure Steven Gerrard will be confident of keeping him and he’s a young kid. If he continues to progress the way he has been then the world will be his oyster.

“I can understand Ryan Kent’s position because he’s an interesting young player and has everything you’d want in a player but I do believe he will remain a Rangers player.”

Rodrigo deal agreed

Valencia have announced they have agreed a deal in principle with Leeds over the transfer of Rodrigo.

The Whites are set to complete the signing of the 29-year-old forward for a fee believed to be around £27m, a club record.

In a statement on their website, Valencia wrote: "Valencia CF have reached a preliminary agreement with Leeds United FC this Tuesday for the transfer of footballer Rodrigo Moreno, at the expense of completing all the documentation and other formalities and passing the mandatory medical examination.

"Valencia CF want to thank him for his commitment and effort over the last six seasons - in which he has played a total of 220 games, scored 59 goals, and helped to win a Cup title.

"Valencia CF wish him all the best in this new stage of his sports career."

Rodrigo, who has 22 Spain caps, started his career at Real Madrid and also had spells with Bolton Wanderers and Benfica.

Leeds set to miss out on Eze

One player who seemingly will not be joining Rodrigo at Elland Road, however, is Eberechi Eze, who is on the cusp of a move to Crystal Palace.

According to The Telegraph, the 22-year-old attacker is poised to join the Eagles in a £19.5m deal with the Premier League side having had a bid accepted.

Leeds, as well as Fulham, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United, were interested in Eze earlier this summer, as per the Mirror.

Eze scored 14 goals and added eight assists during a breakout 2019/20 season for QPR in the Championship.
