Leeds United morning headlines as Raphinha cleared to play & January Lewis O'Brien bid claim

Here are the morning’s Leeds United headlines on Saturday, 11 September 2021:

Raphinha cleared for Liverpool

Leeds United winger Raphinha has been cleared to play in the Whites’ fixture with Liverpool on Sunday.

Raphinha had been called up to the Brazilian national team squad for the first time in his career but opted against making the trip due to quarantine rules.

As a result of he and several other Premier League footballers rejecting the call up, the Brazilian FA were looking to impose a five-day ban on all players who decided to miss the country’s World Cup qualifying fixtures.

However, following strong opposition by the Premier League and English FA, this has now been waivered, meaning he will be in the squad to face Liverpool.

Leeds likely to return for O’Brien

Leeds United could return with a January move for Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien after their failed summer bid.

That is according to the Football Insider, who claim that the Whites have received encouragement that O’Brien would be keen to join the club and that talks will remain ongoing between now and January.

Marcelo Bielsa had made the 22-year-old his top summer midfield target after their failed attempt to prise Conor Gallagher to Elland Road.

Huddersfield chairman Phil Hodgkinson revealed earlier in the week that he rejected a bid as high as £13m for O’Brien due to issues with the structure of the deal.

Klaesson still coming to terms with Leeds move

Leeds United goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson is still trying to come to terms with his move to the club after joining in the summer.

Klaesson signed a four-year deal with the Whites after joining from Norwegian side Valerenga, where he made 56 appearances.

While the 20-year-old has only been limited to a place on the bench since his arrival at Elland Road, he has spoken on what life has been like in West Yorkshire in an interview with the Danish press.

He said: “This is still a bit unreal, I have to admit it. It is very nice that Leeds dared this, to bet on me.

“I may not yet have realised how big a club I have come to.”
