Leeds United morning headlines as Rangers defender makes Ryan Kent admission, Lewis Cook latest

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Saturday, August 22.

Kent will not make Leeds move, says Rangers team-mate

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is looking to add to his squad by signing Rangers midfielder Ryan Kent.

The Scottish side have rejected a £7million bid for the former Liverpool youngster and his team-mate Connor Goldson believes that Kent will not be lured to Elland Road – despite Leeds now being a Premier League club.

He told The Herald: “I didn’t realise what Rangers were all about until I came here.

“It will take something special for boys to leave. You see that now with Ryan. Two years ago, when I came to this football club, boys would have jumped at the opportunity to go to the Premier League.

“But speaking to him, he seemed really calm.

“He said he was happy to stay here. He didn’t really care. It’s not like he kicked off and said that he wanted to leave.

“It was the complete opposite. He said how happy he is. He wants to win and be successful here before ever leaving.”

Corberan’s “honest conversation” with Bielsa

Former Leeds coach Carlos Corberan has revealed how Bielsa supported him when the now-Huddersfield Town head coach told him about the opportunity to take charge at the Terriers.

Spaniard Corberan was part of Bielsa’s backroom staff as Leeds ended their 16-year exile from the Premier League with promotion to the top flight last season.

But Corberan decided to stay in the Championship after he was hired by Huddersfield.

He said: “With Marcelo I had a very honest conversation in both directions and once the season finished I was aware I had the opportunity to come to this club.

“I was very honest with him, telling him my ideas and I received high support off him because Marcelo will never stop the development of any player or any coach working with him.”

Leeds plotting Cook’s return to Elland Road

Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook could return to Leeds, according to Football Insider.

Cook came through the Whites’ academy before he left for the Cherries in a £6m deal in 2016 and has two years remaining on his contract at the Vitality Stadium.

Leeds are reportedly looking to re-sign the 23-year-old, who made 27 Premier League appearances last season as Bournemouth were relegated from the top flight.
