Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Thursday 2 July.
Leeds will attract ‘quality players
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson does not believe Leeds will have any issues signing ‘quality players’ should they earn promotion to the Premier League.
Marcelo Bielsa's side top the Championship standings going into the final stretch of games and are poised to return to the top-flight after a 17-year-absence.
And Merson believes the club will be able to strengthen sufficiently to ensure they have a strong squad in next year’s Premier League.
“People will want to play for Leeds, it’s a big football club with great support. I don’t worry about them if they get up and try to get players to play for Leeds,” Merson said on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, via Leeds Live.
“Sometimes teams get up and you think, ‘Who’s going to go there? And, who’s going to go to that club?’. But I don’t see that with them.
“I think they’ll be able to bring in quality players. Hopefully they’ll be able to get them again next season.”
Fears allayed on floodlights
Leeds insist there are no issues with the floodlights at Elland Road after complaints of glare in Tuesday’s draw with Luton Town.
Both Patrick Bamford and Helder Costa spurned close-range chances during the game and told team-mates it was because of the intensity of the floodlights.
Marcelo Bielsa later described the incidents as strange but, via the Daily Mail, Leeds insist there are no issues with the floodlights and they meet the EFL regulations.
There are plans to upgrade the stadium's floodlights should Leeds win promotion but there are no issues with the current installments.
Increasing Costa impact
Helder Costa is set to become the most-expensive signing at Elland Road since the arrival of Robbie Fowler in 2001.
The winger has been used in 38 Championship games since joining on loan from Wolves, and that deal will be made permanent for £15million this summer.
However, the Portuguese's performances have slightly underwhelmed due to the high expectations placed upon the player.
LeedsLive have evaluated three of his best displays at Molineux and asked how he can enjoy similar success at Elland Road.
It is highlighted how Costa scored and provided an assist in a 3-1 win for Wolves at Tottenham Hotspur in December 2018, while pointing out his role in Championship wins over Bolton and Bristol City respectively.
