Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Thursday, 1 October.
Leeds 'close in' on Cantwell deal
Leeds United are reportedly closing in on the signing of Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell alongside the addition of Michael Cuisance of Bayern Munich, according to Football Insider.
The Canaries have indicated they are open to a deal for selling their midfielder after receiving an offer of £15million, and Leeds will look to complete the deal following the £20million capture of Cuisance.
Cantwell is said to be keen on a move to Elland Road and a deal is now looking increasingly likely.
Leeds are hoping to announce a deal for Cuisance before the weekend.
Leeds plan for City clash
There is another huge test for Leeds United this weekend as they take on Manchester City in the Premier League, with Leeds Live analysing what the best tactical approach might be.
IPep Guardiola and Marcelo Bielsa share similar philosophies; pressing high, dominating possession and territory, swarming the opposition.
Leeds went for the game in their trip to Liverpool and scored three goals, and a similarly high-scoring encounter could be on the cards due to City’s defensive struggles.
Wing play is likely to be key with Leeds hopeful of exploiting City’s full-back duo Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker.
Monchi praises Leeds recruitment
Sevilla sporting director Monchi has praised his Leeds counterpart Victor Orta and the recruitment system he heads up at Elland Road.
Orta is director of football at Leeds and is a big fan of Monchi’s methods at the Andalusian club, with the praise now reciprocated.
“This is my opinion – all clubs should have this position (sporting director),” Monchi told The Telegraph, via Leeds Live.
“What is the main function? To dedicate the time to everything that relates on a sports level. Where 60-70% of the budget is allocated to the first team, if you don’t have a specialist who deals with that, it is very difficult to understand.”
“There are clubs like Leeds, Liverpool and [Manchester] City, amongst others, that are working with quite a well-developed sporting management structure.”
