Leeds United morning headlines as 'next Dani Alves tipped to join, Casilla's future in doubt

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines on Saturday, May 23.

Casilla considers Spain return - report

Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is reportedly considering quitting the club and making a return to Spain, with several clubs interested.

The 33-year-old moved to Elland Road in January 2019 from Real Madrid, having previously clocked up 126 first-team appearances for Espanyol.

According to Football Insider, the shot-stopper is considering a return to La Liga following his eight-match ban for racism against Charlton player Jonathan Leko.

Leeds to land ‘next Dani Alves’ - report

Brazilian youth international Yan Couto has been signed for Manchester City ahead of next season - but could reportedly be set to join Leeds this summer.

According to The Athletic, via Leeds Live, the right wing-back will move to Elland Road on loan should Marcelo Bielsa’s side win promotion to the Premier League.

The teenager starred for Brazil in the recent Under-17 World Cup where he helped his nation win the tournament, despite receiving a straight red card in his first match.

Leeds to return to training

The EFL have clarified protocols for Championship clubs ahead of the tailored return to training to start from Monday.

England’s second tier is aiming to complete the 2019/20 campaign when it is safe to do so - in a similar vein to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently top the standings with 71 points from 37 matches - one point clear of West Bromwich Albion and seven ahead of third-placed Fulham, with nine rounds of games remaining.

“The EFL has provided its Clubs with updated and finalised Return to Training Protocols (RTT) ahead of the planned resumption of tailored training on Monday 25 May 2020 for Championship Clubs, and moved to clarify the League’s approach to the testing of players and subsequent reporting,” their statement read, via Leeds Live.

“The EFL will announce the following data at the end of the initial testing phase:

· the number of tests undertaken

· the number of positive cases (if any)

“This first collection of data from the initial testing phase is unlikely to be available until Sunday 24 May 2020 and the EFL will publicly advise if any earlier. Please note: the EFL will not be releasing individual Club data.

“The health, wellbeing and safety of EFL players, managers and staff has been at the forefront of the League’s discussions, scenario planning and decision making throughout this process and we will continue to consult with medical experts to ensure this is maintained as circumstances evolve.”
