Leeds United morning headlines as Michael Cuisance lifts lid on move, agent on failed transfer

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Saturday, October 17.

Kinnear ‘delighted’ with transfer business

Leeds United chief executive Angus Kinnear believes the club’s transfer business is proof that they are not back in the Premier League to merely make up the numbers.

Leeds made four major signings over the course of the summer, signing Rodrigo, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and Raphinha, while they also made Helder Costa and Illan Meslier’s loans permanent. Jack Harrison also returned for a third season on loan from Manchester City.

And Kinnear says the club are delighted with the window, which has seen several key areas reinforced in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

“We have reinforced. Andrea’s prepared to invest seriously in our Premier League status and we’re not just here to make up the numbers,” he said.

“We are delighted with the window. Victor (Orta) and Marcelo have worked really well in aligning on players Victor has identified through his network and met Marcelo’s exacting standards.”

Cuisance ‘doesn’t know’ why Leeds move collapsed

Michael Cuisance insists he does not know why his proposed move to Leeds fell through.

The French midfielder was poised to make the switch to Elland Road only for the deal to collapse, resulting in him joining Marseille from Bayern Munich.

At the time, there were reports of a failed medical but they have since been disputed.

“I wasn’t afraid to work with [Marcelo] Bielsa, but it didn’t happen with Leeds,” Cuisance told RMC Sport via Sport Witness.

“I still don’t know why. It’s good, because it allowed me to be at Marseille today.

“The Champions League was an important element for me. I did the final eight with Bayern, it made me want to play it more. The fact that Marseille were in it made me want to do it."

Why Leeds missed out on Malinovskyi

Ruslan Malinovskyi did not move to Leeds as it ‘was not the right time’, according to the player’s agent.

Leeds were linked with a £20m switch for the Ukrainian international only for him to stay at Atalanta.

“To be honest, Napoli were keen on him but that never led to an actual negotiation with Atalanta,” his agent Serhiy Serebrennikov told Radio Marte.

“Top European clubs after him? Of course he was the object of some inquiries, also thanks to how fine Atalanta did. Anyway, it wasn’t the right time for a change.

“We are aware Ruslan isn’t a full-fledged regular in Gasperini’s eyes, right now, but we know the coach trusts him to be an important player for the team.”
