Here are your Leeds morning headlines for Thursday, October 29.
Phillips hope on early return
Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is hopeful of returning from a shoulder injury in time to face Arsenal next month.
The influential midfielder suffered the injury in the recent defeat against Wolves but is hopeful of a return earlier than first feared and could be fit to face the Gunners the other side of the international break.
The 24-year-old had been expected to return against Chelsea in early December, but it may now be in advance of that.
“It’s getting better,” Phillips told the Leeds That podcast this week, as per Leeds Live.
“I’ve been injured for about a week now, so hopefully I’m aiming for three to four weeks, but if it’s not ready then I’ll have to aim for a bit longer.”
Bamford “one of the best” in the Premier League
Patrick Bamford has been in red-hot form this season and former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan believes he is one of the best number nines in the division.
The 27-year-old has netted six goals in six Premier League appearances this campaign, including a hat-trick in last week’s victory at Aston Villa.
Whelan told Football Insider: “At the minute we’ve got one of the best number nines in the Premier League so I’m more than happy.
“We’ve just got to keep Patrick Bamford fit and since last season he’s been so strong, so fit and hardly ever injured and almost an ever-present.
“It’s amazing what maturity does for a player. When you’ve experienced the Premier League and it’s not worked out and that’s what’s happened with Rodrigo, he didn’t so well at Bolton when he came over.
“Who would’ve thought that in years to come we would be going and buying him for £29million?”
Klich praises Rashford
Leeds United star Mateusz Klich praises Manchester United rival Marcus Rashford for his penalty decision in Wednesday night’s Champions League encounter against RB Leipzig.
Rashford had already scored two goals and would have secured a hat-trick by netting from the penalty spot, but instead allowed Anthony Martial to net his side’s fourth.
Rashford would eventually complete his hat-trick but the move to step aside from the penalty was praised by Leeds star Klich, who is the regular spot-kick taker at Elland Road.
As per The Boot Room, Klich tweeted during the game: “Team player Marcus Rashford #respect”.
