Leeds United morning headlines as Marcelo Bielsa makes Anfield admission, Whites eye Lukaku

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Friday, 11 September.

Leeds submit offer for Serie A full back

Jordan Lukaku is on the radar of both Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion, with the two Premier League clubs lodging bids for the Lazio left-back.

Italian outlet Il Massaggero claims Lazio have received offers from the two Premier League sides for the Belgian International, brother of Romelu Lukaku, who has been told he can leave the club this summer.

Lukaku impressed in the final months of last season for Lazio, but has struggled to fulfil his full potential in the Italian capital due to injuries.

Leeds and Brighton are both believed to have submitted an offer worth around €5m for the 26-year-old, with Lukaku reportedly open to the idea of a move to the Premier League this summer.

Marcelo Bielsa opens up on Anfield regrets ahead of Premier League opener

Leeds will make their long-awaited return to the Premier League this weekend when they take on defending champions Liverpool on Saturday evening, but Marcelo Bielsa rues the fact the famous Anfield stands won’t be filled with stands for the event.

Covid-19 restrictions mean Liverpool and Leeds will play inside an empty stadium, something the Whites manager was quick to address when asked for his thoughts on his side’s opening fixture.

“We are going to play at Anfield, but Anfield is only Anfield if it is full,” Bielsa told reporters , also underlining the task his side will face against the champions.

"It's a just champion with a consistent style of play. Without a doubt it's one of the best teams in the world.”

Young midfielder would be ‘fantastic addition’ to Leeds United squad

Former Leeds forward Noel Whelan believes Conor Gallagher would be a “fantastic addition” to the Whites’ squad should he join from Chelsea this summer.

Gallagher, who scored six goals and provided 11 assists in 47 appearances last season in two separate loan spells at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City, is also attracting attention from West Brom, and Whelan believes he would add something different to Bielsa’s squad.

“I would love to have him at Leeds,” Whelan told Football Insider. “I was very impressed when I saw him play last season. He stood out like a sore thumb.

“[He is] great on the ball and very competitive. He likes to get on the ball at every opportunity, very much like a Pablo Hernandez. He is not shy about having the ball at his feet in tight situations, good vision, good ranger of passing.”
