Leeds United morning headlines as Liverpool target eyed on free deal and Bielsa's video message

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Tuesday, May 26.

Leeds linked to Blackburn starlet

Blackburn Rovers were having an excellent run in the FA Youth Cup prior to the coronavirus crisis, and key to their success was left winger Luke Brennan. The 18-year old scored against Newport County and Arsenal in Rovers’ run to the semi-final.

He was expected to be offered a professional contract by the club but discussions have stalled thanks to the lockdown. This may open a window of opportunity for other teams who are interested in signing him, such as Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool and Leeds.

According to Football Insider, via the Lancashire Telegraph, the Whites are looking to pounce while his contract situation remains unresolved.

Bielsa’s video message to Leeds players

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa is renowned for keeping his distance from his players when they’re not working together.

These are unusual times though, and it has been revealed he recorded a video message which was sent to the squad during the lockdown. Club captain Liam Cooper spoke to the media on Monday and explained what Bielsa had done.

“We had a nice video off him maybe two or three weeks ago telling us to stay in shape and do things right and have a thought for the frontline workers and what people are doing for us around the country,” he said.

“All the lads got that to watch and hopefully we’ll get to see him a bit more in the coming weeks.”

Poveda pokes fun at PM

Leeds’ squad returned to training on Monday, as they look to prepare for the resumption of the Championship with promotion to the Premier League at the top of their agenda.

However, social distancing regulations remain in place for now, with the players working in small groups and with no tackling allowed.

It’s an unusual situation, and Ian Poveda took to social media to poke fun at Prime Minister Boris Johnson over the social distancing rules.

Poveda posted an image of himself stood two metres away from a ball, and asked: "Is this alright Boris?"
