Leeds United morning headlines as Juan Foyth backed to shine and attacking target identified

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Tuesday, June 16.

Former Leeds striker backs reported Premier League signing

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has backed the club’s reported interest in Spurs defender Juan Foyth.

Reports claim that the 22-year-old has signed a season-long loan deal with Marcelo Bielsa’s side ahead of next season and Whelan thinks Foyth is the perfect type of player to add to the squad.

Foyth has found regular first-team action hard to come by this season and may be viewed as a longer-term prospect by Spurs, which means that a loan move to Elland Road could benefit his personal development.

Whelan added that the defender will bring vital Premier League experience if the club do secure promotion this season.

“It would be a great signing. An Argentina international at a great age and he knows what the Premier League is all about. It would be a shrewd bit of business if they can get it done now,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“It would be one body in place for next season if we cannot lure Ben White back to Leeds.”

Radrizzani proven right about Bielsa appointment

With the Championship season resuming this weekend, Andrea Radrizzani’s bold claim made on Bielsa’s arrival to Elland Road could be about to come true.

The Whites currently sit with a seven-point cushion in the automatic places and will be eager to get over the line by ending a 16-year wait to return to the Premier League.

Bielsa’s side came close in the play-offs last season before losing in dramatic fashion to Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the semi-finals, which would make success this season that little bit sweeter.

And Radrizzani could be proven right in the coming weeks if Leeds do indeed secure promotion. The club chairman had been complimentary of Bielsa upon his arrival in 2018 and his prediction might just come true.

"I am thrilled to welcome Marcelo and his staff to Leeds United," Radrizzani told the club's official website.

"He is a coach that I have admired for many years and when the opportunity arose to bring him to Elland Road, we made it our top priority for the summer.

"Marcelo has a wealth of experience and he will use that to create a new culture and a winning mentality at our football club.

"I would like to thank Victor Orta and Angus Kinnear for all of the hard work that has gone into this appointment and I look forward to progressing together."

Leeds register interest in Besiktas striker

Leeds could be ready to add attacking options to their squad in the next transfer window with Besiktas striker Cyle Larin linked with a move to Elland Road.

Reports in Turkey state that the club could be ready to make an official offer for the striker, according to Turkish newspaper Aksam.

Bielsa’s permanent striking options are limited to just Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts, which means Leeds could look for reinforcements in the coming months.

Larin is believed to be valued at around £1.9million and therefore stands as a relatively cheap striking option compared to other players with desires of moving to the Premier
