Here are the Leeds United morning headlines on Saturday 2nd January.
Mourinho plays down Bielsa's influence on the game
Leeds take on Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime, with Spurs boss Jose Mourinho coming up against Marcelo Bielsa for the first time since the pair were managing in Spain, eight years ago.
Much has been written about the contrasting influences of the two coaches on the modern game, with Bielsa having plenty of high-profile 'disciples', while Mourinho has won far more medals than the Argentine.
This was something he was asked about in his pre-match press conference.
"I'm only a disciple of my father and I don't like that situation in football," he said. "Even younger coaches, even people that worked with me before, I don't like that: 'Oh, they are a disciple of Jose'. Everyone is an individual with their own ideas, can be influenced by one or another, but in the end what matters is the individual.
"And I think to speak about Mr. Bielsa is for people who know him well. I don't know him well. I think he was Athletic Bilbao coach in one of the seasons I was in Real Madrid. Now is the first time we're in the Premier League at the same time. For sure, he has to be a very good coach but I'm not the person to analyse him because I don't know him even personally. I just shook hands a couple of times and that's it."
The transfer window has opened
As of January 2, the mid-season transfer window is open for business.
While that mean Leeds are able to begin wheeling and dealing, should they so wish, it also means overseas players who have entered the final six months of their current deals are able to sign pre-contract agreements with Premier League sides.
There have been whispering that Barcelona starlet Riqui Puig is set to leave Camp Nou either this month or in the summer, with Leeds one of the many clubs linked with him.
Here's a closer look at his situation.
Bamford shows he can mix with the best
Only a handful of players can boast a better goals tally than Patrick Bamford at this stage of the season.
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Leicester City's Jamie Vardy, Everton Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min have all scored more than Bamford during 2020/21, but each plays for a club currently occupying a position within the top seven.
Leeds United and Bamford are the outliers in the race for the Golden Boot, in both a collective and personal sense. Bamford trails current top scorer Salah by three, while Leeds trail Liverpool by seven goals.
More impressive though, is Bamford's placing amongst Premier League strikers over the entire year in terms of Expected Goals.
Bamford will be looking to add to his tally this afternoon when Leeds head down to London to face Tottenham Hotspur.
