Leeds United morning headlines as Joe Hart ready to seal free transfer, Trevor Cherry tributes

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Thursday, April 30.

Hart linked

England goalkeeper Joe Hart has been linked with a move to Leeds – on a free transfer.

The former Manchester City star is currently second choice to Nick Pope at Burnley, and would be willing to take a pay cut to secure a transfer to Elland Road, according to Football Insider.

At the moment, the 33-year-old is rumoured to be on £70,000 a week, but that contract ends in June.

He wants to stay in the Premier League and would  “jump at the chance” to sign for Leeds, who would be looking for a new goalkeeper should Kiko Casilla opt to move on.

Hart, who has 75 England caps, won two Premier League titles with Manchester City before falling out of favour with coach Pep Guardiola.

Tributes paid to Cherry

Leeds fans around the world have paid tribute to Leeds legend Trevor Cherry, who has died at the age of 72.

The former defender made 486 appearances for the club between 1972 and 1982, and featured in their 1973 FA Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup teams.

He went on to captain the club from 1976 onwards, and also made 27 appearances for England – including one where he skippered the side.

France decision

French president Emmanuel Macron says he does not want professional football to return this season in any of the “big five” European leagues.

France have put a stop to football’s comeback before the end of August at the very earliest – and reports in his country indicate that Macron wants Spain, Italy, Germany and England to join them in terminating the campaigns altogether.

If that happened, it would put an end to Leeds’ chances for Premier League promotion.

All domestic leagues have been given four weeks by UEFA to finalise their plans for the conclusion of the season.

And the most recent reports within England suggest that the leagues are still hoping to finish the 2019-20 season properly – even if it is behind closed doors.
