Leeds United morning headlines as interest in German midfielder emerges

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Saturday, June 13.

Talks held with Nurnberg midfielder

Leeds have held talks with German midfielder Patrick Erras, who is out of contract at Nurnberg this summer, report the Daily Mail .

However, the report claims any deal for Erras - who held talks with Newcastle last summer - is dependent on Marcelo Bielsa’s side winning promotion.

Brentford, QPR, Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers are all said to be in the running for the midfielder, who has made 18 appearances this season and netted twice, including in last week’s draw against 2.Bundesliga leaders Arminia Bielefeld.

Any free agents are likely to be in particularly high demand this summer due to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic and its knock-on affect on football finances.

Leeds share ‘Murderball’ training drill

United delighted fans on Friday by sharing a two-and-a-half-minute clip on their social media channels of an intense training session.

The squad has been back at Thorp Arch since last month and the training sessions appear to have stepped up a gear ahead of the upcoming return of the Championship.

The players appeared to be involved in Marcelo Bielsa’s 'Murderball' drill - a fast-paced, intense training match with no officials or stoppages.

As highlighted by Leeds Live , it appeared to be Bielsa’s first-choice XI in red bibs going up a back-up XI in blue bibs, in a clip which delighted Leeds fans.

Team news for Cardiff clash

Leeds United are on the brink of a return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence with the Championship on the verge of restarting.

The league has been on hold for the past three months but Bielsa’s side will be back in action next Sunday with a tricky trip to Cardiff City.

As outlined by Leeds Live , the Championship leaders will be without injured duo Jean-Kevin Augustin and Adam Forshaw, while goalkeeper Kiko Casilla remains suspended.

However, there is good news for Leeds, who will have star midfielder Kalvin Phillips fit again after he missed two matches before football’s suspension with a knee injury which he has now recovered from.
