Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Friday, July 31.
Striker heading to SPL on loan
Ryan Edmondson is wanted by Aberdeen, with the Scottish side starting their 2020/21 season this weekend.
Manager Derek McInnes confirmed the Dons are looking to bring in a forward on loan after injuries to two others in the build-up to the new campaign, and the Daily Record report that Edmondson is the target.
The 19-year-old made two substitute appearances in the Championship for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, both after the lockdown, and is an England under-19 international.
He is expected to now head to Pittodrie on a short-term loan deal, where he will hope to boost his experience of senior action.
Marcelo Bielsa named Manager of the Month
The way Leeds dealt with the pressure of expectation and achievement was impressive, as they closed out the Championship season with six straight wins.
That 100% end to the season has seen Marcelo Bielsa named manager of the month for July, his third such award in his two campaigns in England.
The panel chair, Danny Wilson, said Leeds “pushed themselves to the limit” in securing promotion back to the Premier League and paid tribute to the manager’s mental strength.
“Up against some fantastic set of results of some teams in July, Marcelo came up trumps with his Leeds United team,” he said.
“When all the expectation is heaped onto one club for a matter of years, that pressure can break certain players and managers, but not Bielsa.”
Florentino Luis possible transfer details emerge
Highly rated Portuguese midfielder Florentino Luis is being linked with a move to Leeds.
The Benfica man has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen in the past, but Leeds are suggested as wanting a season-long loan with an option to buy.
A report in Mais Futebol claimed the approach, after other rumours in Italy saw Tuttomercatoweb claim Andrea Radrizzani has held talks with Florentino’s representatives.
Those talks were to establish the grounds on which any move might take place, with Leeds now looking to reshape their squad for the top flight.
