Leeds United morning headlines as explanation over Bamford 'goal' demanded, Parish praise

Here are your Leeds morning headlines for Monday 9 November.

Former Premier League star makes another bold Leeds claim

Ex Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has been more than vocal about Leeds United following their return to the Premier League this season.

He was forced to eat humble pie earlier in the campaign after labelling Marcelo Bielsa’s side a ‘myth’, as the Whites swept past his old team with a 3-0 win at Villa Park last month.

But with Leeds struggling to pick up results in recent weeks, Agbonlahor has had his say again on their return to the top-flight .

“The biggest thing for me was the team looked tired," he told talkSPORT.

"The team looked shattered. We talk about how they run in training, how much they run in games.

"This looks like a team that’s tiring and already suffering burnout.”

Leeds have picked up just four points from their last five Premier League games and Bielsa will be looking to give those players not away on international duty a chance to recharge their batteries ahead of their return to action at home to Arsenal on November 22.

Palace chairman praises ‘refreshing’ Leeds following 4-1 Premier League win

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish was full of praise for Leeds United following the Eagles 4-1 Premier League win over Marcelo Bielsa’s side this weekend.

Goals from Scott Dann, Eberechi Eze, Jordan Ayew, and an own goal from Helder Costa, sealed a third defeat in four games for Leeds.

Patrick Bamford also saw a first half goal controversially ruled out for offside by VAR before stretching his top-flight tally to seven goals in eight games shortly after.

But whilst Parish was obviously delighted with a positive result for his own team, he was also impressed with Leeds’ performance at Selhurst Park.

“Such an enjoyable game, great performance and some luck we don’t always get...,” he posted on Instagram after the game.

"@leedsunited so refreshing how they approach the game - good to have them back. Enjoy the break #cpfc #epl"

Palace manager Roy Hodgson also complimented Leeds in his own post-match interview, labelling Leeds’ style as different to the majority of most current Premier League sides.

Leeds demand explanation over Patrick Bamford’s disallowed goal in Palace defeat

Leeds will write to the Premier League and the PGMOL for clarification over the current VAR rules after Patrick Bamford’s disallowed goal against Crystal Palace according to the Daily Mail .

Bamford looked to have drawn Leeds level in the first half at 1-1 at Selhurst Park but his strike was bizarrely chalked off for offside.

After consulting with VAR, referee Mike Dean disallowed the goal, as Bamford’s arm was deemed to be offside as he pointed to Mateusz Klich where he wanted the ball played.

Following a change in the interpretation of the handball rules this season, Bamford’s effort was disallowed as his arm is now classed as a goal scoring part of his body.

Bamford himself criticised the decision in his post-game interview, claiming that VAR is ‘ruining the game’ this season.

Leeds will now request more information on the incident and add their voice to the growing discontent within the Premier League over the new rule.
