Leeds United morning headlines as Dallas reacts to Wolves defeat and Hernandez praised

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Tuesday, 20 October.

Former Premier League manager says Leeds have a “sensational” player in Hernandez

Pablo Hernandez’s first season back in the Premier League hasn’t gone according to plan, with injury limiting his involvement.

However, the Spaniard returned for the final 15 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers after recovering from the problem which has kept him out since the opening weekend.

The Spaniard might have turned 35 in April, but former Aston Villa and Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish believes Hernandez can still play a big part this year.

“When you see most of Leeds’ sensational games last season, he was at the heart of a lot of it,” McLeish told Football Insider.

Post-match press conference with Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa following their 1-0 loss to Wolves in the Premier League

“Goals, assists, just an all round terrific footballer and an intelligent footballer who knows his way around the pitch.

“Whether Bielsa spells him at 35 years of age, you would certainly not expect a player to have his best legs.

“I don’t know, he might defy the stats, Gordon Strachan went on till he was 40 so why can’t Hernandez if he looks after himself the way Gordon then he’s got a chance?”

Hernandez, who spent two seasons in the Premier League with Swansea City, scored nine goals for Leeds last term as they won the Championship title.

Every word Marcelo Bielsa said after Wolves defeat

Monday night’s game at Wolves was a tough one for Leeds, who fell to a 1-0 defeat in a tight battle with Wolves.

The game was decided by Raul Jimenez’s deflected effort, while the Whites also had to deal with losing captain Liam Cooper to an injury in the pre-match warm-up.

The result leaves Marcelo Bielsa’s side 10th in the Premier League table, as one of six teams currently on seven points, with Wolves overtaking them thanks to their victory.

After the game, Bielsa addressed a number of talking points, including the injury to Cooper and the failure of his team to build on a promising first-half display.

“Given how the game went we thought we did enough to create a lead,” he said, adding that “When an offensive team doesn’t take their chances the opponent reads this and they start to grow in confidence” and pointing to the interruptions in the game proving a problem.

Here’s every word the manager said after the narrow defeat.

Stuart Dallas explains how Leeds can improve after setback

Stuart Dallas has played a big part in Leeds United’s form this season, playing every single minute of the team’s five Premier League games so far.

The left-back has seen what his team-mates can do, both defensively and going forward, against Premier League opposition.

Dallas spoke to Sky Sports after the 1-0 defeat against Wolves, in which Leeds failed to find a breakthrough despite a promising first half, and explained what the Whites can do better.

“It's bitterly disappointing, we controlled large parts of the game but maybe didn't make the goalkeeper work enough,” the Northern Ireland international said.

"When you're playing teams like this you've got to capitalise when you're on top and we didn't do that.

"I think you've got to give Wolves credit, they came here, the way they set up.

"They came here with a game plan and it worked. You're not going to get too many chances in these types of games and I don't think we made the goalkeeper work enough.

"There's plenty of positives we can take from it, a lot of positives, but there's certainly stuff we can work on as well."
