Leeds United morning headlines as Bielsa reacts to Leicester loss, Campana transfer boost

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Tuesday 3 November.

How Arsenal’s Partey move effects Leeds midfielder search

Arsenal’s deadline day signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey could have knock-on implications for Leeds’ midfielder search, according to HITC.

Thanks to a quirk in the La Liga rules, the La Liga outfit are allowed to move for a replacement, with reports that Valencia’s Geoffrey Kondogbia is set to seal a £15million move in the coming days.

That’s good news for United’s reported pursuit of Levante’s Jose Campana, given he’s also said to have been targeted by Diego Simeone’s side.

Leeds didn’t sign a central midfielder over the summer, but the reported interest in Michael Cuisance (who came as close as arriving for a medical), Rodrigo De Paul and Campana suggests the club may revisit the position in the future.

The 27-year-old Campana, who earned his first Spain call-up last month, is said to be keen on a move away in 2021.

Marcelo Bielsa gives verdict on Leicester defeat

Marcelo Bielsa has given his verdict on last night’s 4-1 defeat to Leicester City, the joint-heaviest of his reign at Elland Road.

Harvey Barnes, who opened the scoring in the third minute, also scored on the last occasion, another 4-1 defeat away to West Bromwich Albion back in November 2018.

Bielsa has taken responsibility for the result, and noted how United struggled to win the ball back in the opening stages as a key reason.

“I didn’t distribute the players correctly on the field. It was difficult for us to win the ball back and this caused us to defend poorly,” the Argentinian told reporters in his post-match press conference.

“In the first 30 minutes we didn’t have the ball to give it away. We allowed them to play out very easily and couldn't get the ball back.

“We had an hour to attack, the last 15 minutes of the first half and whole of the second half.

“We couldn’t manage to cause any harm, any damage to the opponent's defence. We didn’t create enough chances given the amount of possession we had over this hour.

“We lacked impact. We knew we were going to face a challenge like we did. The help I gave the players with regards to how we could defend better and attack better, I didn’t give.”

Here’s what he said in full.

Erling Haaland tipped to join Premier League rivals

Leeds-born Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to the Premier League, but not to his hometown club.

The 20-year-old Norwegian international, son of former Whites midfielder Alf-Inge Haaland, has scored 24 goals in 27 appearances for the Bundesliga club after joining back in January.

One of the most in-demand players from his time with Red Bull Salzburg, there have been suggestions he could sign for Liverpool in the future.

"He will land there," Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund told Sky90.

"He can play for any club in the world. With his mentality, his will and self confidence, he will be able to make a mark on European football in the next ten years."
