Leeds United morning headlines as Bielsa gets injury boost ahead of Liverpool, Gotts loan move

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Tuesday, September 1.

Rodrigo tipped for key role

Noel Whelan believes Rodrigo Moreno will immediately become a starter for Leeds.

The Whites completed the signing of the Spain international for a club-record fee of £27million on Saturday.

And former Leeds striker Whelan believes Rodrigo will be thrown in at the deep end by Marcelo Bielsa.

"There is no time for settling in,” he told Football Insider. “Rodrigo will have to come straight into the team and he will want to.

"When you sign for a new club the best way to bed yourself in is to put in a good display and hopefully grab a goal.

"I do not think the club can afford to take their time with him. We have Liverpool away on the first day of the season and we will need to field our strongest side.

"He is a very, very strong player. Our record signing, an international for Spain and we will need him."

Gotts still expected to depart

Robbie Gotts remains at Leeds for the time being despite having been linked with a loan move for several weeks.

The 20-year-old, who made just two appearances for the club last term, had been expected to join Huddersfield Town for the 2020/21 season.

And although the deal has been held up, Gotts will still join the Terriers according to journalist Alan Nixon.

"Leeds said he could go. Then stopped it. Possibly due to waiting on signings. It’s been a lot more complicated than [it] seemed it would be,” he wrote.

Here are all the latest Leeds transfer rumours.

Leeds given injury boost

Leeds start the Premier League season in the toughest way possible: a trip to Anfield to face champions Liverpool.

However, their task could be made a little easier if the Reds are missing some of their key players.

Jordan Henderson has returned to full training but may be short of match practice ahead of next weekend’s clash.

Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are also expected to miss the game.

However, Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to be fit in time for the opening-day fixture on September 12.
