Leeds set to swoop for Croatian defender
Leeds are reportedly closing in on the signing of Dinamo Zagreb centre-back Josko Gvardiol.
According to the Daily Mail, the highly-rated 18-year-old will head to Elland Road in a£17.6million deal.
Gvardiol, who can also play at left-back, has been watched by Manchester City and Bayern Munich, too.
Bielsa has been keen to bolster his backline all summer, although it’s not yet clear how big a role the youngster will play this term.
“Leeds are prepared” ahead of Liverpool clash – Shackleton
Leeds midfielder Jamie Shackleton believes the club are “fully prepared” ahead of their Premier League opener at Liverpool next weekend.
Shackleton, who played the full 90 minutes as Leeds claimed a 3-1 win over Portuguese Primeira Liga side Pacos de Ferreira on Saturday, said the side are getting sharper, despite the absence of a sizeable international contingent.
That win followed a midweek 3-0 defeat by Championship side Stoke City.
Shackleton explained: “You shouldn’t read too much into [the Stoke result].
“It’s a pre-season game. The performance wasn’t good enough really. What you’ve seen today was much sharper on the ball.
“We’ve moved it how we can move it, which we didn’t do the other day.”
Leeds still in talks for De Paul
Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul is still a ‘serious target for Leeds, according to The Athletic, via TEAMtalk.
The Whites are believed to be in talks for the Udinese man, who has been with the Serie A side for the past four years.
However, Leeds could face competition for the 26-year-old’s signature, with Juventus also thought to be keen.
