Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Wednesday, 30 September.
Cuisance not the final piece of Bielsa’s jigsaw
Leeds United are on the verge of announcing the signing of another European player. Bayern Munich’s Michaêl Cuisance is said to be undergoing a medical ahead of a permanent £20million move.
However, Marcelo Bielsa is not done yet in the transfer window, report The Athletic. The Leeds boss still wants to strengthen his wide options, with links to Daniel James still lingering.
Nevertheless, adding Cuisance to his midfield is yet another example of United’s pull as a Premier League club.
The 21-year-old signed for Bayern last summer but has found game time hard to come by at the Allianz Arena.
The fee represents a relatively manageable outlay for a Premier League club, particularly on a young player with immense potential who claimed Borussia Monchengladbach’s Player of the Season award in 2018/19.
Leeds could level late bid to lure Ibrox star
Bielsa’s desire to sign a winger in this transfer window is no secret, while his admiration for the likes of Daniel James and Rangers’ Ryan Kent is public knowledge too.
With just a matter of days before the window closes, Kent’s loyalty to the Ibrox club could be tested if Leeds present him with a return to England and the opportunity to feature in the Premier League.
Kent was formerly a Liverpool youth team player and the 23-year-old was sent on various loans in the EFL and to Germany before settling in Scotland. His form there has brought into question the possibility of a move south of the border, with Leeds one of the interested clubs.
Rangers may be reluctant to let their star man go, and have been successful in keeping hold of Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos, who was widely expected to leave the club this summer.
Football Insider report that Kent is intent on staying put at Rangers, but that Leeds remain keen on the wide man.
Bayern coach expects Cuisance to make Super Cup squad
Head coach of Champions League winners Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick has remained coy on speculation linking Michaël Cuisance with a switch to Leeds United.
The German stated he believes Cuisance will be involved in his DFL Super Cup squad to face Borussia Dortmund, despite reports to the contrary suggesting the Frenchman is undergoing a medical at Elland Road.
Flick’s comments to TZ may be his own method of ensuring he does not jeopardise the deal or stir up a media frenzy ahead of an important game for Bayern, who are looking to clinch their fourth title in the space of a few months.
“Now, it is the case that Mika [Cuisance] and Javi [Martínez] are still in the roster. You are part of our team,” he said. “I’m not nervous about transfers.”
