Leeds United morning headlines as Andrea Radrizzani opens door to Edinson Cavani transfer

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Wednesday, July 22.

Former Leeds boss issues Bielsa transfer advice

David O’Leary has said Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa will need to invest in a new striker as they face up to life in the Premier League next season.

Patrick Bamford has been praised for his overall play this season, with Leeds winning the Championship title, but the former Leeds boss thinks a more proven goalscorer will be required for the top flight.

“For a forward it must be fantastic to play in this team, it must be a dream, because they create so many chances,” O’Leary told the Daily Star

“But the flaw is they take the game to people, they create an amazing amount of chances, but don’t score enough goals to put teams away.

“In the Premier League in particular, when you take people on and create chances you’ve got to take them. Patrick Bamford has done great, but I still think another centre-forward would be very important for them, personally.”

Thomas Frank takes lesson from Leeds’ promotion

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has spoken about the lesson he took from Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League.

The Bees could still finish in the automatic promotion places if they beat Barnsley tonight and West Bromwich Albion drop points to Queens Park Rangers, but Frank provided some perspective having seen Leeds go up last week.

“For all football fans, football people, there are moments when you fall a little more in love with the game,” the Brentford head coach said.

“Leeds coming back from 16 years of suffering. I saw a picture this morning of a Leeds fan, a fantastic picture of a dad, son and daughter holding a sign, 'We will be back,' 16 years ago. Then another sign now, 'We are back,' and they are grown up. They have been through so much suffering and pain.

“It's football, we are working so hard and going through so many things to try and be part of special moments. We need to realise to be in this position is unbelievable and we really, really need to try and enjoy it.”

How to watch Championship trophy lift

Leeds will finally get their hands on the Championship trophy on Wednesday night, having been confirmed as champions over the weekend.

Brentford’s defeat to Stoke City on Sunday meant the Whites could no longer be caught at the top of the table ahead of their final league game of the 2019/20 season against Charlton Athletic.

Supporters will be able to watch Bielsa and his players lift the trophy and provide a symbolic moment of their return to the top flight after 16 years on Sky Sports Football after the match between West Brom and Queens Park Rangers has finished, which should be between 9.30-10pm.

Radrizzani optimistic over Cavani

Andrea Radrizzani has opened the door to a potential swoop for Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan star is available on a free transfer after leaving PSG.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italy, Leeds owner Radrizzani admitted he had yet to consult Marcelo Bielsa but said a deal could be possible.

"In addition to his quality, Cavani could contribute with his physicality and adapt here, but I've never talked about him with the coach," Radrizzani said.

"Having said that, we've certainly thought about him and we'll see, given he's still available on a free transfer."
