Leeds United morning headlines as Alfie McCalmont opens Oldham account, Phillips injury update

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Wednesday, November 11.

Kalvin Phillips hopeful of returning to action against Arsenal

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is confident he will be able to return to action immediately after the international break.

The Whites face Arsenal at Elland Road on November 22, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side look to reverse a poor run of form in recent weeks.

Phillips has been sidelined since picking up a shoulder injury in the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Wolves on October 19.

But the England international hinted in an online Warzone chat with teammate Leif Davis that he could have an injection to speed up his return.

"How's your shoulder feel now?" Davis asked in a clip posted on Reddit.

"It's still sore mate, it's been sore for ages. I'm meant to get an injection at the end of the international break," Phillips responded.

"So you can play against Arsenal?" Davis asked, to which his teammate replied: "Yeah. Hopefully, anyway."

If Phillips is not fit in time to face the Gunners, a more realistic return date could be the Whites trip to Stamford Bridge on December 5.

New Elland Road training ground state of play

Leeds United continue to press ahead with their plans to move the club’s training ground from Thorp Arch to a new site just a short walk from Elland Road.

The club agreed a deal with Leeds City Council to buy the Matthew Murray site on Brown Lane East back in January 2019.

Surveys and feasibility studies have since been undertaken by the club to determine whether the area is suitable for their ambitious plans to bring the club closer to Leeds city centre.

Once the club have formally confirmed their intention to move ahead with the project, the Whites will have 12 months to propose detailed plans for the full development, subject to council planning permission being granted.

If that all goes to plan, the club should be in a position to provide more detail on what to expect by the start of 2021, with the council set to grant them a five-year lease.

In total, the project is expected to cost in the region of £25m, including the land purchase and all building work, with the council already listing the area for sale from the start of the 2021/22 financial year.

Leeds United loan star Alfie McCalmont impressing at Oldham

Leeds United’s on loan midfielder Alfie McCalmont has netted his first goals on loan at Oldham Athletic in their 3-1 Football League Trophy win at Bradford City.

The 20-year old has endured a mixed start to life with the struggling Latics, with just one assist to his name from five League Two appearances prior to last night’s victory at Valley Parade.

However, his late brace against the Bantams secured a timely win for Harry Kewell’s side, with Oldham fans voicing their positivity online, according to a report from the72.co.uk.

Leeds United supporters will be hopeful that can kickstart his stint at Boundary Park, with the Northern Ireland international highly rated by Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa.
