Leeds United morning headlines as £15m bid 'contemplated' for Wilson and Jansson's message

Here are the Leeds United morning headlines for Friday, August 7.

Leeds contemplate £15million bid for Liverpool man - report

This isn’t the first time Liverpool academy graduate Harry Wilson has been linked with a move to Elland Road, but the latest from the Daily Mail suggests Leeds could be set to table a £15m bid.

The 23-year-old Wales international had another decent loan spell last season, scoring seven goals at Bournemouth, having notched 15 goals in the Championship for Derby County the season before.

Liverpool are said to be open to offers for the winger, who hasn’t yet been given a chance to break into Jurgen Klopp’s first team at Anfield.

The latest report suggests that Leeds will face competition from Aston Villa and Newcastle United for his signature.

Goalkeeping coach gives insight into working with Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds goalkeeping coach Marcos Abad has given a fascinating new interview in which he’s opened up about the demands of working under Marcelo Bielsa.

The Spaniard followed Victor Orta from Middlesbrough to Leeds, and has been with the club since Thomas Christiansen’s time in charge, in 2017.

"There is an anecdote from the biography of Stephen King that reminded me of the figure of Marcelo, and that is that the American writer cannot allow himself to wait in line without doing anything else,” Abad told Spanish magazine Panenka.

"That represents Bielsa, it is perfectionism at its best, it is the nonconformity of the ordinary and the mediocre. For him, if there is a better way to do it, you have to try.

"Marcelo is learning not to use the 'you can not', there are no limits for him in the pursuit of excellence. That's when you realise that you have someone brilliant in front of you.

"There are those kinds of geniuses who, although sometimes called crazy, dedicate all the time of their lives to becoming better and better at what they do. Not everyone is up for that."

Pontus Jansson sends Leeds a message after play-off heartbreak

Brentford captain Pontus Jansson will not be joining his former Leeds team-mates in the Premier League next season after his side lost the play-off final 2-1 to local rivals Fulham.

The Swede posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, in which he spoke of his disappointment of Tuesday evening’s defeat, but also had space to congratulate the sides that went up ahead of Brentford, with a special note for Leeds in particular.

"Really tough to put words into the end of this season," he wrote. "We were so close but couldn’t take it over the line, and of course it feels tough a day like today.

"What I know is that this will give us extra motivation into the next season.

"I will also congratulate Fulham, West Bromwich and of course all my friends at Leeds for what you achieved. All the best next season!”
