Leeds United might have found a perfect Helder Costa alternative

Leeds United are on the verge of completing another under-23 transfer this summer, with the acquisition of Feyenoord winger Crysencio Summerville, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

So what would Leeds be getting? Summerville is a right-winger who spent last season on loan at relegated Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag, playing a portion of the campaign under Alan Pardew and Chris Powell.

The 18-year-old scored twice in 21 appearances, in what was his first taste of regular top-flight action. He has also spent time on loan at FC Dordrecht in the Netherlands’ second tier, where he scored five times in 18 league outings as a 17-year-old.

He is widely known for his direct approach, dynamism and dribbling ability. Summerville is slight, but has great speed and has displayed this at various youth international levels for the Dutch junior sides.

It will not be the Dutchman’s first time playing in England either. In 2018, Summerville won the UEFA under-17 European Championship as part of the Netherlands’ star-studded squad, a tournament which was hosted in South Yorkshire.

He featured alongside AFC Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch, Jurrien Timber and Brian Brobbey, as well as PSV Eindhoven’s Mohammed Ihattaren who enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Eredivisie giants last year.

Most recently, Summerville has been capped at under-19 level, where he has scored six goals in five games under former Everton and Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Last October, he scored four in one game against Latvia’s under-19 side, as well as notching a goal and assist apiece in games against Czech Republic and Mexico’s under-20 team, as per TransferMarkt.com .

Summerville will likely slot into Leeds’ under-23 setup, for which they have a clear vision now. They have supplemented the squad with the likes of Cody Drameh, Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood so far this transfer window, ahead of competing in Premier League 2 this coming season.

It is worth noting Summerville was involved in two of Feyenoord’s first-team friendlies last month, starting and scoring against Sparta Rotterdam, and playing 45 minutes in a 0-0 draw with FC Twente.

Continental flair has always been well received at Elland Road and it may not be too long before the diminutive right-winger is taking to the field to showcase his dribbling and speed.
