Leeds United midfielder becomes latest youngster to sign new contract at Elland Road

Leeds United have secured another of their promising under-23 crop to a contract extension this morning with the announcement of Jack Jenkins having signed a new deal.

The teenage midfielder begun the under-23s' campaign in promising fashion with two assists against Crystal Palace U23, and has subsequently been rewarded with a one-year contract extension.

Jenkins' current deal was scheduled to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season, but now, he will remain contracted to the club until the following summer.

The 19-year-old made his senior debut for the Whites in last season's FA Cup defeat to Crawley Town, but has been involved in the occasional Premier League matchday squad.

This latest move follows extensions for Charlie Cresswell and Liam McCarron already signed earlier this summer.

Both have been involved with the first-team so far this season, albeit only Cresswell in a playing capacity.

Jenkins faces competition for his place in the team following the signing of Lewis Bate from Chelsea a few months ago, but a new contract should reassure the teenage midfielder he is still very much a valued member of Mark Jackson's under-23 group.

A press release from Leeds United read: "Leeds United are pleased to announce Jack Jenkins has signed a new contract with the club.

"The midfielder has penned a fresh three-year deal, running until the summer of 2024.

"A regular for Mark Jackson’s Under-23 side, Jenkins went on to make his senior debut for the Whites last season.

"He joins fellow young players Charlie Cresswell and Liam McCarron, who have also penned new deals at the club in recent weeks."
