Leeds United may struggle to find investors as Nike begin to rue Liverpool decision

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has explained how Leeds United's investment opportunities will have changed amid the coronavirus crisis.

It has widely been reported that Paris Saint-Germain's Qatari owners are keen on investing in the Whites but, due to the current crisis, the economics of football have been hit significantly.

As such, Maguire says it will take a brave man to invest in a Championship club but, if Leeds are promoted to the Premier League, their price will have likely dropped.

“Everybody is waiting for white smoke to come out of both the Premier League and EFL chimneys in terms of some sort of resumption to football and until that clears, it will be a brave person to invest in a Championship club with no guarantee of promotion," he told Leeds Live.

“The chances are that Leeds will go up and deservedly so based on their football. There will be opportunities to buy certain clubs, Leeds included, simply because if they are promoted to the Premier League, there will be less money coming in next year from matchday revenues.

"It could be that the potential of a lucrative sponsorship deal won’t materialise as well because what is the point of buying a football shirt if you can’t go to a football match?

“I think it will be a real shame for them but they won’t be the only people cursing. If you think about Nike, having gone through all that trouble to win the Liverpool contract, they’ll be pretty upset as well.”
