Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa offers his verdict on Huddersfield Town ahead of derby clash

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has labelled Huddersfield Town as a “creative team” ahead of Saturday’s Yorkshire derby at Elland Road.

The Whites will aim to extend their current winning streak to five matches when they host the Terriers on Saturday.

Bielsa’s side earned a 2-0 victory over Danny Cowley’s side when these two sides last met in December, with Leeds hopeful of completing their first league double over Huddersfield since the 2014-15 season.

Despite beating the Terriers when they last met, Bielsa praised his upcoming opponents and is expecting them to make life difficult for his side.

“I remember the previous match was tough, difficult. It was difficult to play well,” said Bielsa in his press conference.

“What I feel that the match on Saturday, this team, they are a better team than the team in the first match against them.

“It’s a creative team. Midfielders think more offensive than in the recovery of the ball. And the two wingers and two centre forwards are good players.”

Huddersfield’s form has turned around dramatically since Cowley succeeded Jan Siewert as Town boss in September. If the season had started when Cowley arrived, Huddersfield would be 12th, having picked up 41 points from their 30 league games since.

Bielsa believes that after the January transfer window, where Town recruited the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Chris Willock and Richard Stearman, Cowley has been able to shape the squad into what he wants it to look like.

“I think that before January was a period for them where a new manager was “knowing his team,” Bielsa added.

“And what happened from January so far is more similar to the thought of the new manager, what he wants from the team.”
