Leeds United man agrees January transfer away from Elland Road

Leeds United’s Conor Shaughnessy will move up to League One for the second half of 2019/20 after agreeing a loan switch to Burton Albion.

The 23-year-old spent the first half of the season in League Two with Mansfield Town, making 19 appearances in all competitions.

However, while he remains out of the picture at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa, he wants to play at the highest level possible and moves to the third tier this month.

Shaughnessy has not featured for the Stags since December 14, but has been carrying an injury he hopes to shake off in the next 10 days before the loan is announced.

Nigel Clough’s mid-table Brewers are three points off the play-offs and wanted to take on Shaughnessy in the summer window, but injuries changed their plans.

Should Shaughnessy perform well at Pirelli Stadium there is a clause in place for the loan to be made permanent.

The Republic of Ireland man has 18 months remaining on his current contract with the Whites.
