Leeds United make dreams come true for lifelong fan suffering with terminal cancer

Leeds United have gone the extra mile to help a lifelong fan suffering with terminal cancer attend one last match at Elland Road.

Leslie Atkin, 67, was diagnosed with mouth cancer six months ago, but tragically there are no more treatment options left available for him.

"There's nowt they can do," said Leslie's son, Lee. "It's getting worse. He can hardly eat, he can hardly drink. He's probably got a couple of months left tops."

With the Whites in the driving seat for promotion, Leslie is hoping to see Marcelo Bielsa's side clinch promotion to the Premier League in the coming weeks - but with all tickets at a premium, it's more difficult than ever to get a ticket as the end of the season ticks ever closer. The Wigan match had sold out by Tuesday.

'I'll probably cry a few times if I'm honest, but I just know my dad's going to love it.'

Lee told LeedsLive : "I went to go see my dad on Wednesday and he said: ' I wish I could see Leeds one last time'.

"I didn't think I'd be able to get tickets, but I rung the ticket office and explained the siutation.

"Amazingly, they said they'd be able to get us tickets for Wigan. It was all so overwhelming!"

As soon as Lee had secured the tickets, he called his dad to tell him the good news.

"When I rung him up he was absolute over the moon," said Lee. "He can't wait.

"The atmosphere's going to be amazing and the whole day will be too.

"I'll probably cry a few times if I'm honest, but I just know my dad's going to love it."

As well as paying big thanks to the members of staff in the ticket office who were able to help him get tickets at the last minute, Lee also praised to attitude that owner Andrea Radrizzani has instilled in the club since arriving in 2017.

"It's Andrea, isn't it? He's class. He's the best owner we've had in so long.

"He's transformed the club on and off the pitch."
