Leeds United made "three offers" for Noa Lang as transfer opportunity re-emerges

Leeds United could re-ignite their interests in Club Brugge winger Noa Lang who is set to depart Belgium after just a year with the club on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old Dutch international scored 26 times in all competitions in 85 appearances for Brugge, first joining them on loan from Ajax in 2020 before making a permanent switch for just under £5.5million a year later.

Prior to Lang’s permanent move to Belgium last year, Leeds United had a strong interest in signing the forward which Lang has previously revealed, with the Whites making three offers to sign him and even travelling to the Netherlands to hold talks with Ajax over a possible move.

"They were concrete, yes,” Lang told HLN in 2021. “Leeds made three offers. We even negotiated – they flew to the Netherlands."

In both of Lang’s two seasons in Belgium he won the league title with Club Brugge and his impressive debut campaign where he scored 16 goals in 29 league games, Lang was named as the Belgian Young Professional Footballer of the Year.

While at Brugge, Lang has played in 12 Champions League games that has seen him play against the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig. He also has one goal in the competition to his name, scoring against Zenit St Petersburg in December 2020.

However, Lang has made it clear that he sees his future beyond this summer away from Belgium, suggesting that Leeds’ chances of going back in for Lang this summer are strong.

"Believe me: Belgium will miss me when I'm gone,” Lang told HLN, as posted on Twitter by Football Oranje. “I gave your football colour. Next season you will pray that there will be a Noa Lang walking around in Belgium, who can also play football so well.

"I knew who would laugh at the end. Will you see me again in Belgium? Certainly not. Only if it is to watch a Club Brugge match."

Lang is currently on international duty with the Netherlands, winning his first three caps in November during qualification matches for this year’s World Cup against Latvia, Gibralatar and Montenegro.

Netherlands have four international matches in the coming weeks in the opening rounds of their UEFA Nations League campaign, facing Belgium (June 3), Wales (June 8 and June 14) and Poland (June 11), with Lang hoping to add to his total of caps and score his first goal for his country.

Leeds have already been active in this summer’s transfer market ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. They signed midfielder Brendan Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg for £25million last week and have also been linked with Salzburg right-back Rasmus Kristensen.
