Leeds United loanee tests positive for coronavirus

Leeds United loanee Mateusz Bogusz has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 19-year-old is on loan with Spanish second division side Logrones this season after spending time with the Whites' Under-23s over the last two years.

The Spanish side today confirmed that four of their first-team players have tested positive for the virus, with Bogusz one of the players absent from training.

A statement read: “After the relevant antigen tests, in accordance with the control protocol established by LaLiga, the Union Deportiva Logrones reports the finding of four positives in COVID-19 in the first squad.

"Once the data is known, and in accordance with what is indicated by the competition and the health authorities, a confirmation PCR test has been carried out, the result of which is pending.

"The four affected are in good physical condition and isolated in their homes."

Leeds themselves are believed to have suffered from COVID-19 cases this season, with Rodrigo Moreno and more recently Illan Meslier, missing matches whilst they self-isolated, although not officially confirmed by the club.

Captain Liam Cooper spoke earlier this month about the importance of players taking their responsibilities seriously to ensure safety amongst the group.

“First hand, we see every day how good Rishi (Dhand, club doctor) and Rob (Price, head of medicine and performance) and Jamie (O’Shea, doctor) stick to the protocols,” he told LUTV.

"We’re human, it’s hard not to make mistakes sometimes, but all in all, as a club we’ve been different class.

“We’re still not eating, or anything like that, together, just simple stuff like that. The masks around the training ground have got to be done.

“The club, as a whole, has dealt very, very well with it and we’ll stick to that.

“Obviously, the positive cases are there in your face at the moment. It’s definitely at its highest now and I just hope everybody stays safe and look after each other.

“I know it’s a difficult time, but we’re all in this together and we’ve got to pull through and I do believe, 100 per cent, better days are coming.”
