Leeds United loan watch: Jay-Roy Grot scores on making first start at new club

Leeds United had a busy summer transfer window this year, with a host of players leaving the club.

Unlike last season when a lengthy list of players were dispatched out on loan, the club has looked to move these fringe players out on permanent deals in order to get players with little hope of ever featuring for the first-team off the wage bill.

That means that just two Leeds United players out on loan, making our loan watch feature a far more brief affair.

Here is a look at how the pair of loanees got on - and we also check in on some of the bigger names who left the club last summer.

Jay-Roy Grot - Vitesse

After spending last season on loan at VVV-Venlo, Grot has not started a season-long loan period at another Eredivise side Vitesse managed by former Hull City boss Leonid Slutsky.

Grot scored the opening goal for Vitesse after 55 minutes at the weekend and his team went on to beat Willem II by 2-0. This was his first start for the Dutch side although he came on as a substitute in their opening game against Ajax the previous week.

Lewie Coyle - Fleetwood

Lewie Coyle is spending his third loan spell at Fleetwood.

At the weekend he played for the full 90 minutes to help Joey Barton's League One side to a 2-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon.

Former players round up

The Barnsley side that lost 2-0 to Sheffield Wednesday had several former Leeds United representatives among its ranks. There were starts for Mallik Wilks and Alex Mowatt, both of whom were substituted in the second half. Defender Aapo Halme was an unused subsitute.

Pontus Jansson helped his Brentford side keep a clean sheet in a controversial match against Middlesbrough which saw the Teesside team put the ball in the back of the net twice before half time only for the assistant referee to rule both attempts out.

Tom Pearce did not feature for Wigan - United's next opponents in the Championship - during their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Preston North End.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell did not feature for Burnley during their impressive 3-0 victory over Southampton.
