Leeds United loan watch: Grot top of the league, Coyle hits major Fleetwood milestone

It wasn’t a good weekend for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United as they fell to a first league defeat of the season at home to Swansea.

But how did the other players on United’s books get on?

Leeds fell to third in the second-tier going into the international break, but some of the club’s loanees had a much better time of it.

The club don’t have quite as many players out on loan as last season, with a number of fringe players leaving the club on a permanent basis last summer, but the club still has representation from the lower reaches of the EFL to Spain and the Netherlands.

Lewie Coyle - Fleetwood Town

The academy graduate full-back managed to reach a milestone of 100 appearances for Fleetwood Town in their game against Lincoln City on Saturday, despite being a Leeds United player the entire time.

But he couldn’t mark the occasion with a win, as Fleetwood lost 2-0 away to the Imps.

Coyle had some interesting things to say about his parent club , and also revealed he’s targeting promotion in his third loan spell at the club. They’ve made a good start, despite Saturday’s setback.

Jay-Roy Grot - Vitesse Arnheim

Grot provided the assist for Tim Matavz’s equaliser as Vitesse Arnheim battled back to beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1, winning it courtesy of a 96th-minute penalty.

The result moved Vitesse top of the Eredivisie, although they’ve played one game more than the usual suspects, Ajax and PSV.

The 21-year-old has registered a goal and an assist from five appearances so far this season.

Paweł Cibicki - ADO Den Haag

The Swedish centre-forward was brought on for the final 12 minutes as Den Haag saw out a 1-0 win over VVV Venlo, coming up against former Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole.

It was his first appearance for the club after being an unused substitute in last week’s 3-0 victory over RKC Waalwijk.

Rafa Mujica - Extremadura

After arriving in Leeds from Barcelona in the summer, Mujica was somewhat surprisingly allowed to leave on loan for Extremadura, rather than continue his development with Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s.

He arrived too late to be able to make his debut in last week’s 2-1 defeat to Fuenlabrada in the second-tier of Spanish football.

It was another 2-1 defeat for the Spanish side on Sunday, this time to Cadiz. Mujica was brought on in the 75th minute as Extremedura looked for a winner with the scores tied at 1-1. Unfortunately, it was the opposition who won it in the 94th minute.
