Leeds United loan watch as Oldham boss Harry Kewell clears up Alfie McCalmont absence

Leeds United loanee Alfie McCalmont missed out of Oldham Athletic's win over Newport County through injury, Latics boss Harry Kewell has confirmed.

There was initial confusion as to why the 20-year-old, who has impressed in his 20 appearances so far this term, was not named in Oldham's starting XI, with the club tweeting out that he missed out because Kewell was only able to name five of his six loan players in the match-day squad.

However, following the match former Leeds midfielder Kewell said it was actually injury that forced McCalmont out of the side.

Why are Leeds struggling going forward?

"Alfie just picked up a slight, little thing but he’ll be alright for Cheltenham," Kewell said.

Elsewhere among Leeds United's domestic loanees this weekend, Robbie Gotts scored his first goal for Salford City in a 2-2 draw against his hometown side Harrogate Town, while Ryan Edmondson made his Northampton Town debut, playing 85 minutes of the Cobblers 2-1 defeat at Lincoln.

Jordan Stevens came on for the final 19 minutes of Bradford City's goalless draw at Cambridge United, with his Elland Road team-mate Bryce Hosannah failing to make the matchday squad.

Blackburn Rovers visit Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon, with Barry Douglas hoping to keep his place in the Rovers side.

In Spain, Mateusz Bogusz and Rafa Mujica's loan sides meet on Sunday, when Logrones host Real Ovideo.
