Leeds United loan watch - a weekend to forget for the Whites playing elsewhere

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United returned to action with a 2-0 win over Barnsley on Sunday, but they weren’t the only ones to feature.

There are six players on the club’s books out on loan this season, with deadline day departures Laurens De Bock at Sunderland and Conor Shaughnessy at Mansfield Town joining the quartet who had left earlier in the summer.

It wasn’t the best week for them, all in all. None were on the winning team, two missed out on their team’s squads entirely, and one suffered a particularly bruising 5-0 defeat.

Here’s the latest update on all of United’s loanees.

Lewie Coyle - Fleetwood Town

The right-back featured throughout as Fleetwood played out a memorable 3-3 draw away to Southend on Saturday.

Coyle laid on the cross for Kyle Dempsey to head the Trawlermen 3-2 ahead, his third assist in his last four games, but they were pegged back with a late equaliser. Fleetwood remain fourth in League One, but would have been joint top if they’d held on.

Jay-Roy Grot - Vitesse Arnheim

Jay-Roy Grot was very much away from the headlines this weekend, as Vitesse fell off the top spot after suffering a humbling 5-0 defeat away to title-challengers PSV in the Eredivisie.

Rising star and former Arsenal academy product Donyell Malen scored all five goals on the day, while Grot was substituted on the hour mark for Hull loanee Nouha Dicko.

Paweł Cibicki - ADO Den Haag

The Swedish striker was introduced at half-time as ADO Den Haag were three goals behind to Jaap Stam’s Feyenoord.

His team enjoyed an unlikely late comeback as Feyenoord scored two own goals in the final 20 minutes, but the hosts saw things out to win 3-2.

Rafa Mujica - Extremadura

Extremadura are still waiting for their first win of the season in the Spanish second tier, and are second bottom with just two points from five games.

They lost 3-1 to promotion-chasing Real Zaragoza on Sunday, with goals from former Manchester United forward Shinji Kagawa and Luis Suarez (not that one) for the hosts.

Rafa Mujica wasn’t in the matchday squad. It’s unclear why.

Laurens De Bock - Sunderland

The Belgian wasn’t in Sunderland’s squad for their 3-1 win away at Accrington on the weekend, but the club have confirmed he’ll feature for their Under-23s tonight.

Conor Shaughnessy - Mansfield Town

Shaugnessy was named man of the match in his Mansfield Town debut, last week’s 2-0 win over Scunthorpe .

But things didn’t quite go to plan in his second appearance, a 1-0 loss away to Crawley Town. He played all 90 minutes as Mansfield fell to 16th in League Two.
