Leeds United loan round-up as Ian Poveda dropped, Joe Gelhardt provides vital assist

Mick McCarthy has revealed Ian Poveda was left out of Blackpool's squad for their 2-0 defeat against Bristol City at Ashton Gate due to disciplinary issues.

Poveda was left out of the Tangerines' hard fought goalless draw at home to Championship table toppers Burnley, and McCarthy has confirmed that Poveda, and fellow teammate Lewis Florini both left before the game.

“Both of them went home last week before the game, so they weren’t involved today,” he told The Gazette.

“They’re just not playing, not when that’s the case. It will be done now but the team played ever so well last week and they deserved the chance to start again and that’s what happened.

“If we get an injury in the warm-up, they need to be there so they made a mistake. But they’re back in the squad,” he added before confirming that he has spoken to both players regarding the incident.

Cresswell completed 90 minutes for the ninth game on the spin as Millwall climbed back into the play-offs with a 1-0 win over Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

Jamie Shackleton returned to the bench after missing the previous game with a knock but was not called upon by Gary Rowett.

Cody Drameh starred in a monumental 1-0 win over second-place Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The 21-year-old has thrived at right-wing back for the Hatters, who moved up to fourth courtesy of Carlton Morris' 53rd-minute winner.

Joe Gelhardt led the line during Sunderland's 1-0 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road. The Black Cats kept their play-offs dreams alive by moving to within five points of the top six, with the Leeds man providing the assist for the goal.

Alfie McCalmont started as part of a three-man midfield as Carlisle left it late to beat Swindon. The Cumbrians went ahead just after the break through Jack Armer, only for Tyrese Shade to equalise 10 minutes from time.

Former Leeds striker Ryan Edmondson then popped up with a 96th-minute winner to ensure that Carlisle stayed second in the League Two table.

Leo Hjelde was taken off at half-time after picking up a booking in first-half stoppage time at the City Ground. Matty Taylor made a tactical change by bringing on forward Conor Washington, but his alteration didn't make an impact with Rotherham losing 2-0 against Birmingham City.

Lewis Bate's woes at Oxford United continued with a fifth straight league defeat. The U's lost 3-2 against promotion chasers Derby County and extended their winless run to 10 league games. They now sit just three points adrift of the League One drop zone.

Mateusz Bogusz featured from the start for UD Ibiza, who held Villarreal B to a goalless stalemate. Ibiza ended their 11-match winless run in their previous outing, but still sit 11 points adrift of safety in the Spanish second tier.

Helder Costa was left out of the Al-Ittihad squad for the second game on the spin. They prevailed 1-0 over an Al-Nassr side, which featured Cristiano Ronaldo, and replaced them at the Saudi Pro League summit.
