Leeds United are set to hand a trial to Chelsea starlet Ashley Akpan after the teenager was told he can leave the Premier League side, Football Insider reports.
The 15-year-old, who turns 16 next month, is said to be a target for multiple clubs ahead of his imminent exit from Chelsea but Leeds are making the first move for his services.
According to the report, Akpan will head to Thorp Arch next week to undergo a trial as Marcelo Bielsa's side look to steal a march on their rivals in the hunt for his signature.
Akpan has been informed that he will not be offered a scholarship deal at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea have granted the teenager permission to trial for clubs as he looks to secure a deal elsewhere.
While he remains on Chelsea's books, he will leave the club immediately if he secures a deal with a new side and his versatility is one of the reasons why he is attracting vast interest.
Predominantly a defender, Akpan can also play in midfield and he has represented Poland at Under-15 level, although he is also eligible to play for Nigeria and England.
