Leeds United legend Norman Hunter to be remembered in Leeds Hospitals Charity day

Legendary Leeds United defender and hometown lad Norman Hunter will be remembered at a charity golf day next month to raise funds for Leeds Hospitals Charity to support cancer research. It will be the second event to be held since Hunter’s passing in 2020, after he sadly died after contracting coronavirus.

The World Cup winner passed away aged 76, after he was also diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and was receiving treatment at Leeds Cancer Centre but passed away after contracting Covid. The inaugural event raised £40,000 and funded a major piece of equipment for a leukaemia trial.

The event will be held at Horsforth Golf Club on June 24.

The Revie-era legend made 726 appearances for Leeds United and was a key member of Revie's two title-winning seasons, while also helping the club to successes in the FA Cup, League Cup and Fairs Cup. Hunter was also capped 28 times by England and was a part of the Three Lions 1966 World Cup winning squad.

Tributes had been pouring in after Leeds United announced that Hunter had lost his battle against coronavirus as the club, city and wider world of football mourned his passing.
