Leeds United learn key dates for the Premier League 2021/22 season

Leeds United and fellow Premier League clubs have been handed key dates ahead of 2021/2022 - with the season set to kick-off on August 14.

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Whites fans have been forced to watch the majority of this term, which is their first back in the big time, from the comfort of their own homes.

With the UK set to embark on Prime Minister Boris Johnson's roadmap out of lockdown, though, supporters across the country could soon get to watch their clubs in action once again.

And that hint of normality at Elland Road is set to return to the wider football schedule, too.

Having watched Leeds start their first season back in the Premier League with a thrilling 4-3 defeat against reigning champions Liverpool - on Saturday, September 12 - next season's curtain-raiser will see a more familiar mid-August date.

Indeed, Marcelo Bielsa and his fellow managers will kick-off their respective charges on Saturday, August 14, while the final day of the campaign has been scheduled for Saturday, May 22.

Of course, all of those games will kick-off at the same time.

Given the tight turnaround this summer, due to the delayed finish to 2020/2021 and the rescheduled Euro 2020 championships, there could be a subsequent impact for Bielsa and his Leeds squad further down the line.

Indeed, there are just 34 days between the European final at Wembley Stadium - pencilled in for Sunday, July 11 - and the opening day of the next Premier League season.

Factor in the following World Cup in Qatar and it highlights an action-packed two years for the biggest names in the sport - at Elland Road and beyond.

Kalvin Phillips is one player who harbours genuine hopes of representing England towards the final stages of their upcoming quest for international honours, while Diego Llorente (Spain) is another man who is currently away with his country.

Before the 2021/2022 season kicks-off, though, there are a number of issues to be ironed out domestically, such as who will follow Leeds in booking their place in the Premier League.

Norwich City are currently in pole position to succeed Bielsa's side as EFL Championship winners, with Watford and Swansea City set to battle it out to join them in one of two automatic places.
