Leeds United learn Championship season outcome as Harry Wilson conundrum assessed

Here is your Leeds United digest for Wednesday, June 10.

EFL set out how Championship campaign will be finalised if season is curtailed

Leeds will promoted back to the Premier League via an unweighted points-per-game system if the Championship campaign cannot be concluded, the EFL confirmed in a statement yesterday.

All 71 clubs in the EFL were made to vote on how the EFL campaign would be concluded if the campaign, though it is scheduled to return at Championship level in a little over a week's time, does end up being curtailed.

As well as final league standings being based on a points-per-game system, promotions and relegations will also stand.

In a statement released by the EFL, in part, they said: “At an Extraordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 9 June, EFL Clubs voted on proposals in respect of changes to EFL Regulations in the event season 2019/20 is curtailed,” a statement from the EFL read.

“Proposals were submitted by Barnsley and Tranmere Rovers alongside amendments to an EFL Board proposal which were put forward by Lincoln City, Stevenage and Ipswich Town.

“Following a vote on each by all 71 Clubs, it was overwhelmingly agreed (by a majority of all Clubs and a majority in the Championship) to adopt the EFL Board’s proposal into EFL Regulations, which now means the following applies in the event a division curtails its 2019/20 season or it is ended by any other means:

1. Final divisional placings will be determined on unweighted points per game (if required).

2. Promotion and relegation should be retained.

3. Play-Offs will be played in all circumstances but will not be extended (beyond four teams)."

The Whites were within touching distance of luring the Wales international to Elland Road back in January 2018, only for James' former club - Swansea City - to pull the plug on the deal at the very last minute on transfer deadline day.

The 22-year-old, who had gone through all of the formalities ahead of sealing a move to West Yorkshire, has since joined Manchester United and has enjoyed a steady first season at Premier League level.

Now, data revealed by the CIES Football Observatory, which takes into account a player's age and the selling club's economic level, predicts that James is worth £60.57m.

Harry Wilson does not fix the £15m puzzle

Harry Wilson seems to be the latest flavour of the month with the Leeds United rumour mill, an aspiring England international who needs somewhere to play regularly.

It seems to tick a lot of the boxes on the face of it for director of football Victor Orta and head coach Marcelo Bielsa, a high-potential loan asset with no long-term financial commitment.

Indeed, he was considered in Bielsa’s first summer before he eventually went with Derby County and a manager he had grown up admiring on television. Read full piece here
