Leeds United lead £3m hunt for Arsenal forward but could face Manchester United competition

Leeds United are leading the chase to sign Arsenal forward Sam Greenwood but could face competition in the market to get a deal over the line.

The 18-year-old forward has emerged as the latest target for the Whites to strengthen their youth ranks, following on from the signings of goalkeeper Dani van den Hueval, Charlie Allen, Cody Drameh and Joe Gelhardt.

Initially reported by the Athletic, it has been stated that 18-year-old Greenwood is closing in on a six-figure move to Elland Road.

However, while Marcelo Bielsa's side are leading the charge, LeedsLive understands that the Whites could face competition in the market.

Manchester United and AC Milan both hold interest in the forward, who was linked with a move to Italy 12 months ago, though Leeds are at the front of queue for his services.

A deal for Greenwood could potentially rise as high as £3m with add-ons and would provide Leeds with the services of one of the most highly-rated young forwards in English football.

In the past five years, Greenwood has netted 15 goals in 20 appearances for England's U17 and U18 ranks - a tally only bettered by Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster.

That puts Greenwood ahead of the likes of Dominic Solanke, Danny Loader and Manchester United namesake Mason Greenwood, who has become an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.
