Leeds United latest: West Brom verdict, moments missed, Bielsa praise, Cooper latest

Leeds United were knocked off top spot on Sunday afternoon but it still goes down as a successful weekend thanks to their 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

That was win number six on the bounce for Marcelo Bielsa's side, but attention now shifts to Hull City, with the Tigers visiting Elland Road tomorrow night.

Here is a look at the main Leeds United headlines.

Moments missed

Leeds United safely negotiated their first West Yorkshire derby clash against Huddersfield Town for almost three years on Saturday, claiming a 2-0 victory which saw them return - temporarily - to the top of the Championship table.

After an attrional first half, Leeds were able to make their quality shine through, going 1-0 up when Gjanni Alioski lashed a volley home five minutes into the second half before Pablo Hernandez headed a second 12 minutes from time to seal the win.

Here's a look at some of the under-the-radar moments and incidents you may have missed from the win - including a former boss, Patrick Bamford, charity work and more.

Leeds fans react to West Brom win

Leeds United's latest spell at the top of the Championship proved to be another short one, as West Bromwich Albion put in a devastating performance to return to the summit.

Marcelo Bielsa's men took full advantage of their early kick-off on Saturday, winning 2-0 at Huddersfield Town to edge past the Baggies, who were in action 24 hours later.

But it would appear that playing catch-up so far suits Slaven Bilic's men as they eased to a 5-1 win over Swansea City to restore their two point lead over the Whites.

Despite the emphatic nature of the victory, it would appear that most Leeds fans are not overly concerned - mainly because they would be more than happy to settle for second place in the table at the end of the season, as that would end their 16-year Premier League exile.

Cowley praise

Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley has paid tribute to the qualities of Leeds United head coach Danny Cowley following the Whites’ 2-0 victory over the Terriers at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

Offering a detailed description as to why he has so much respect for the Leeds boss, Cowley, speaking to the media after the game, said: “There are not many people who can be classed as pioneers in football, but I remember watching England against Chile when he was the Chilean manager at Wembley and he was the first one… I want to say to say it was the late 1990s.

Here's what he said in full.

Cooper latest

We'll be hearing from Marcelo Bielsa this lunchtime as he previews the Hull City clash, but here's what the Whites chief said after Saturday's game regarding skipper Liam Cooper's fitness.
