Leeds United latest: West Brom blow, Che Adams latest, Pontus Jansson's emotional message

Happy New Year!

2020 is here and Leeds United are sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table, preparing for a huge match to kick the year - and decade, even - off with.

Leeds travel to West Brom for today's tea-time clash, but before that here's a catch-up on the latest headlines...

West Brom blow

Influential West Bromwich Albion forward Grady Diangana has been ruled out of the top-of-the-table New Year's Day clash against Leeds United .

West Ham loanee Diangana has been one of the Baggies' standout performers this season, but is still 'two or three proper sessions' from returning after he sustained a back problem at Birmingham City, according to Slaven Bilic.

Joining him on the sidelines will be full-back Nathan Ferguson, with Bilic revealing the England under-20 star is suffering from a 'small knee problem', during a pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

Here's the full story.

Che Adams latest

Southampton are unwilling to offload Che Adams in January, a new report suggests, in what could be a big blow for Leeds United.

With Eddie Nketiah's recall by parent club Arsenal expected to be confirmed in the coming days, attention has turned to securing a replacement striker.

Saints striker Adams, who is yet to score for the club after his move from Birmingham City in the summer, has been linked with a potential move to Elland Road if Nketiah was to be recalled.

It had been hoped that Adams might become available given he's been pushed to the periphery of Southampton's squad after failing to open his account for the south coast club.

Here's the full story.

Jansson's emotional New Year message

Pontus Jansson has reflected on an emotional year which saw him move from Leeds United to Brentford.

The centre-half’s Elland Road career came to an end after Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites lost the play-off semi-final to Derby County.

Despite his exit, Jansson doesn’t look back on his time with the club with ill feeling and evidently still maintains an emotional bond with his old team-mates.

Forshaw insight

Adam Forshaw has provided an insight into one of the more distinctive elements of Marcelo Bielsa’s training methodology at Leeds United.

The midfielder, who has been sidelined for the majority of the season, has remained hard at work with the squad and given information on the extra work that goes in away from the training pitch.

Speaking in a new interview with BBC Sport , the 28-year-old described what Leeds are doing the same and differently as last season and gave in-depth detail on the analysis done by the players and coaching staff.
